Amazon Decorative Throw Pillows

Y’all know by now that I can’t resist a good throw pillow. I actually wrote another blog post about pillows last year linked here. In that post I share pillows from all different sources. This post will just cover decorative pillows from Amazon. I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I have a closet in our basement that has approximately 20 pillow covers in it. Switching out throw pillows is the easiest way to refresh a space, add some personality, or tie together a room—without spending a bunch of money. I’ve found some absolute gems on Amazon lately, and I’m so excited to share my current favorites with you.

Scalloped Pillow Covers

These pillows are all over social media, and for good reason! They come in a bunch of colors, are often on sale, and even when they are not on sale, they are a fantastic price point! They are so versatile and pair beautifully with solids, stripes and patterns. I love the way they look in my oldest daughter’s bedroom.

Blue and White Floral Pillows with Ruffle

These blue and white pillows are so fun. The sweet striped ruffle detail makes them feel extra special, and the floral print is in my favorite color combination-blue and white. I bought 4 to put in our chairs around our card table in the basement. They would also be darling in a girl’s room or tucked into a cozy window seat.

Embroidered Pillow Covers

These embroidered pillows feel like something you’d find at a boutique shop—but they’re on Amazon! The embroidery detail is so beautiful in person. They work great with the blues and greens we have in our home. I’ve put them in our blue french chairs and on our basement couch.

Green Velvet Pillows

If you’re looking for the perfect fall and winter pillow, these green velvet pillows are for you. I had a local embroidery shop add a monogram to make them extra special. They instantly add warmth and depth to any room, especially during fall and winter. I like pairing them with Christmas plaid pillows in December and navy and green floral pillows the rest of the season. They come in a set of two, one light green and one dark green. In these pictures, I’m showing the dark green.

You know I love a good block print! These blue and pink print covers have a handmade, artisan feel that adds so much charm. The bright color combo is fresh and versatile—I’ve used these in both my living room and daughter’s bedroom. I have a matching tablecloth that I love as well! Side note, the cute little Staffordshire dog salt and pepper shakers make a great gift! The pink and white striped quilt is reversible and really pretty. My parents have the red, blue and white version in their room.

Bedroom Throw Pillows

These are beautiful traditional pillows. The pretty pattern adds a softness that pairs well with other patterns. The cornflower blue cording and in seam zipper make them really high quality- but with an Amazon price tag! I love them paired with a check. I recently put them in my guest room with these blue linen euro shams. The shams are an amazing price and really well made. They come with a zipper closure and are available in a lot of different sizes and colors.

Styling Pillows on a Sofa

When it comes to styling throw pillows on a sofa, I like to keep things casual but intentional. My go-to method is to start with a larger pillow in each back corner—typically 24”x24” or 22”x22”. These anchor the arrangement and give it some nice height and structure. Bonus- they feel good under your head when you’re taking an afternoon nap! The blue linen pillows in these photos are some I’ve had for a few years, but these blue linen pillow covers from Amazon work great with the print pillows. The Amazon linen pillows come in 26 different colors and several different sizes. I really like that look great with the block print ones.

Next to each of those, I layer in a slightly smaller square pillow—usually 2 inches smaller—so a 22”x22” if you started with a 24”, or a 20”x20” if you started with a 22”. In these pictures you’ll see the same pillows I used for the guest room. This simple layering adds visual interest and keeps things from feeling too flat.

Then, if you want to finish things off with a little extra charm, place a rectangular (lumbar) pillow in the center. It adds softness and balance, especially if your sofa is on the longer side. This setup works beautifully on both modern and traditional sofas, and it’s easy to switch out pieces seasonally or whenever you’re ready for a little refresh.

Don’t Skip the Inserts

Let’s talk about what’s inside the pillow cover—because it matters! I always use inserts that are 2 inches larger than the cover. So, if your pillow cover is 20”x20”, go with a 22”x22” insert. This gives the pillow a nice full look that doesn’t sag or slouch. Side note, if you order the Amazon ones linked, they come wrapped so tightly that you’ll think there is absolutely no way they will fluff up nicely. Don’t worry! Just throw them in the dryer with 3 or 4 dryer balls on a low setting for 10 minutes. They will look perfect when you take them out!

As for the fill, I absolutely love inserts that are either a blend of faux down and down or 100% down. They’re soft, hold their shape well, and give that cozy, high-end feel. Plus, they’re perfect for that little “karate chop” in the middle. Speaking of, a follower messaged me recently to say she learned so much from me…including that you have to “karate chop” your pillows for them to look right. Ha! I’m always grateful to know I’m helping people, even if it’s in little ways:)
