Easy Decoupage Ornaments

I love crafting with friends and my friend Rebecca is the perfect crafting buddy. She has an art room in her basement that is so very happy. Think tons of fabric, sewing machine, paints, felt, lots and lots of beautiful ribbon and bright colors everywhere. Last year Rebecca and I made easy marbled ornaments and so this year we decided to decoupage some. I’ve shown you how to decoupage pumpkins before– such a fun fall craft! Here’s a step by step to make these easy ornaments.
Ornament Supplies You’ll Need
- Rectangular pieces of colorful patterned fabric, foam brushes, Mod Podge glue, and round white items are arranged on a gridded cutting mat for a craft project.

Gather your craft supplies: a bottle of Modge Podge (gloss or matte finish), pretty paper or decorative napkins, flat plain ball ornaments (available here on Amazon or at craft stores), and a pair of scissors. You’ll also want a foam brush or flat paintbrush for applying the glue and smoothing the napkin. These simple supplies make this DIY project accessible and budget friendly. This is a craft that works for just about all ages. It’s a little messy, but super fun!
How to Make Easy Decoupage Ornaments

Start by separating your decorative napkin: gently peel off the white under-layers so you’re left with the thin printed layer. If you are using paper, you obviously skip this step. Next, use the foam brush to apply a thin layer of Modge Podge onto one side of the ornament surface. Gently press the napkin layer onto the glued surface, smoothing it carefully. Then turn the ornament over and repeat the process on the other side. Because you’re using a thin napkin layer and a light coat of glue, the drying time is fairly quick. Once dry, you’ll have a custom decoupage ornament with a handmade-fun look. I added plaid ribbon to mine to go with my chinoiserie and tartan theme. I love the way they turned out!
How to Use the Ornaments
I made mostly blue and white ornaments (no surprise to my followers!) and tied a pretty tartan ribbon around each one before hanging them on my blue-and-white themed Christmas tree. These ornaments also make adorable place card holders for a holiday luncheon or sweet handmade gifts for friends, neighbors, or teachers. Their classic style and custom papers make them perfect for gifting, table decor, and festive styling throughout the season.
