Five simple ways to make house guests feel welcome in your home

It’s the little things that mean a lot when it comes to hospitality.

Everyone knows they should have clean sheets on the bed and tidy up the guest room/ bathroom before company comes. I try and remember to do these things ahead of time so that I’m fully present when my guests arrive.

Since we moved to Colorado 2 months ago we have already had several house guests (which brings me so much JOY!) so I feel like I’m getting lots of practice on how to take care of my guests.

Here are five other things you can do to make your special guests feel at home!

1. Have clean towels on the bed along with a washcloth and extra hand towel. You don’t want your guests searching through your linen closet for these!
2. Have a couple of water bottles and chocolates on the bedside table or by the sink. That way your company doesn’t have to worry about bringing water from the kitchen or going into the kitchen if they get thirsty in the middle of the night. And chocolates! No explanation needed here. Everyone loves chocolate!
3. Put some fresh flowers in their room to make it feel extra special. I love flowers, and I think they are such a nice added touch to any room.
4. Make sure you have shampoo, conditioner, lotion and a new bar of soap or bodywash for your guests. I’m embarrassed to say that in our old house I’m pretty sure the guest bath shampoo, conditioner and body wash were the same bottles the entire 7 years we lived there!! Yikes! Since you most likely aren’t using the guest room, chances are those items could be old or even missing. Another thing to think about is some people (like me!) have sensitive skin. Because you are purchasing for your guests, and not yourself, think about what they might need. I always buy sensitive skin bodywash/soap for this reason. I know some people don’t use lotion, but I always have. Living in Colorado where the air is so dry- guests will need lotion!!
5. Have the coffee ready to go in case they wake up super early. Set out some coffee cups, spoons, sugar/sweetener and let them them know to help themselves to the cream in the fridge.

As I was thinking about this post I also thought it would be a good idea to have a few extra phone chargers available as well as a note welcoming them to your home. Next time :)

It’s so nice to have family and friends come visit. Since we moved to Colorado, I’m especially aware of the time and commitment it takes to come visit us with most of our visitors coming from Texas!! I do want to make them feel special, so welcome and at home.
