Light Blue and White Summer Tablescape

I was so excited to host some friends recently and eat outside! There’s something extra special about dining al fresco, especially when the table is layered with beautiful textures, timeless patterns, and fresh blooms. This light blue and white outdoor tablescape is one of my favorites. I created it when my oldest and her 9 friends had just come for a quick visit and I was sad to see them leave. Some people shop for therapy…I buy flowers and create tables for therapy. Ha! I used antique floral china, bold pink peonies, (from Trader Joe’s of course!) and charming woven chargers. It’s a look that feels both elevated and welcoming, perfect for summer gatherings on the porch.

Tablescape Items Needed

My “tablecloth” closet is getting a little out of control. It is approximately 75% full of linens right now. I recently had two of my childhood best friends visit and forgot to clear out some space in the guest room/tablecloth closet for my friend to hang her clothes…sorry Laura!! All that to say, it’s fun looking through the pretty linens I have accumulated and pick one for a table I’m creating. For this table here’s what I chose:

Light blue and white check tablecloth

The foundation for this tablescape is a light blue and white checked cotton tablecloth that is a classic. If you have followed me for any amount of time, you know I love a good check tablecloth! Here’s a link to some of my other tables, many of which started with check tablecloths. I love how the tablecloth sets a happy tone while complementing the other blues I used. You might notice the blues on the table don’t match exactly, and that’s OK! I love using different shades of the same color on my tables and in my home. Each place setting features ruffled linen napkins from Henhouse Linens in a bright turquoise shade—they bring just the right pop of color and texture. I have the green ruffled napkins and love them as well!

Plates and Glassware

I found the floral plates as well as the white plates at a local antique mall and couldn’t resist their sweet charm. The plates sit beautifully on top of woven chargers from World Market, which help ground each place setting with a touch of warmth and texture. I love that the chargers are a bit more casual and make the table less fussy and more fun! The glassware adds an extra layer of color with bright blue goblets and matching tumblers, and the Reed and Barton Burgundy silver adds the perfect touch of elegance.

The centerpiece features one of my favorite flower combinations: blue and white hydrangeas paired with bright pink peonies. Peony season is way too short in my opinion, so I really enjoy their beauty while I can. The hydrangeas provide a soft, cloud-like base, while the peonies steal the show with their lush, vibrant blooms. A few cream spray roses and pink hypericum berries tucked in help add balance and dimension. I used a large glass cylinder vase that is simple and elegant for the arrangement. The pretty brass rechargeable lamps with cream shades are some of my favorites! You can easily move them around and they add a touch of warn light to wherever you place them.

Light Blue Tablescape Thoughts

Creating a beautiful table shouldn’t be overwhelming! I share my ideas with you to give you inspiration. Use what you have, buy some pretty grocery store flowers, and then just enjoy the gathering with friends and family.

Whether you’re hosting a brunch, a birthday, or just visiting with friends, this light blue and white tablescape proves that a few thoughtful details can create something truly memorable.
